meals

St. Luke's Mobile Meals prepares and delivers about 80 meals each Saturday morning throughout the year (about 4,200 meals annually). We consistently operate at this level and have for several years. In fact, much of the year there is a waiting list. We currently operate seven driving routes and serve both the Southwest and Northwest Oklahoma City metro areas.

Our mission is operated entirely by volunteers currently numbering about 85 who serve in various capacities, including cooks, dessert cooks, drivers and substitutes for each of the aforementioned responsibilities.

Special holiday meals are prepared at least three times each year (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas). Additionally, we sponsor a "Wish Tree" each Christmas to help insure our recipients' Christmas wishes are realized. Typical wishes include requests for food, fresh fruit, warm socks or pajamas. Throughout the year, specialty items are also distributed (i.e. Braum's gift certificates, seasonal food and/or decorative items, "blizzard bags" of shelf-safe groceries, greeting cards and placemats created by St. Luke's children and others).

The primary goal of St Luke's Mobile Meals is to provide supplemental dietary care to mostly home-bound individuals by providing them with a quality well-balanced meal each Saturday. We try to help our recipients maintain a safe and independent lifestyle in their own home. These individuals become a part of St. Luke's family of faith. This is our way of giving something back as we attempt to develop a renewed spirit of hope, dignity and independence in others.
