ACTING: Classes address basic reading and acting techniques, terminology, voice control, movement and taking direction, as well as scene work, audition technique, character development and ensemble work. BALLET: Students learn the fundamental principles of classical ballet technique, achieving a significant level of discipline and physical control, while developing an appreciation of ballet’s importance to the overall development of dance as an art form. CREATIVE MOVEMENT: An introduction to the world of dance designed especially for 3 to 5 year olds. Students learn to follow directions and work together while learning basic jazz, ballet, acrobatic and yoga movements to fun-filled, energetic music. HIP-HOP: A dance form rooted in street dance developed in the 70’s to 90’s by Black and Latino Americans. Students receive instruction in a wide range of techniques such as breaking, popping, tutting, locking and krumping. IRISH DANCE: Students develop a love for this fast paced folk dance, while receiving instruction in jigs, reels, slip jigs, figure dancing, and beginning hard shoe work. JAZZ: Popular with those interested in musical theatre performance, these classes cover stretching and technique exercises essential to all dancers. Students learn to use the mind and body to create character through dance. KINDERMUSIK: An early learning music and movement program designed to develop a lifelong love of music. MODERN: Following the inspiration of Isadora Duncan and Loie Fuller, students learn to inspire audiences to a new awareness of feelings, reaching outside the limits of classical ballet and modern show dance in favor of a freer movement style. POINTE: A form of ballet in which dancers dance on the tips of their toes using specialized shoes. Dancers must have sufficient strength and technique before beginning pointe work. Students must be 12 years of age and have permission of the instructor. SAMUEL’S CALL: A unique program designed to bring dance to special needs children. Dance instruction helps students coordinate movement, learn to follow instructions and develop spatial concepts, sequential memory, and self confidence. TAP: A truly American art form, the lively rhythmic tapping makes the performer more than a dancer, he is also a percussive musician. Students develop and strengthen tap technique, highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound. YOGA BOOTY BALLET (YBB): A fun and spirited workout that exhilarates and empowers. Beginning and ending with a brief meditaion, this class combines cardiovascular dance, basic ballet, strength training, and yoga.
